I’ve been learning to say yes to new adventures. I’ve been searching to see the sun, to feel the wind and to drink the rain (as Lord Huron would say it). I want to dance under the stars, step outside my comfort zone and allow God to take me to new places and faces. I’ve been committing to being entirely present in each moment of the journey so that I’m not held back from God doing something new within me. When I travel, it feels like the distance allows something new and creative to grow within me. When I return back, I know that home will always be the same, but after the adventure I am different, and that changes everything.
While in the High Desert I experienced the unworldly looking Painted Hills, let my feet dangle off the cliffs of Smith Rock and had amazing conversations while hiking to Tumalo Falls. However, my favorite night did not involve sightseeing creation but rather sitting in the presence of my creator as my friends and I sang songs and told stories about God’s goodness around a fire. That’s when I realized that sometimes it’s not the places you go that change you, but rather the people you meet. Whether they’re in your life for a week or a lifetime you know that they were there for a purpose and that in and of itself is an amazing gift and mystery from God. A gift because it’s something you weren’t expecting and a mystery because they might never truly know the impact they had on your life.
