The feeling of sand between your toes, the splash of the ocean waves on your feet, the sound of sea lions saying hello and even the occasional sand dollar that feels like hidden treasure. These are just a few of the hundreds of reasons why the Oregon Coast is one of the seven wonders of Oregon and why people love the beach, which just happens to be an acronym for the Best Escape Anyone Can Have. All 363 miles of the Oregon coast are beautiful but Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City surpasses them all. There are numerous dazzling features that separates Cape Kiwanda from the other beaches. The sandstones, Great Dune, Haystack Rock (not to be confused with the one at Canon beach) and Cape Lookout are just a few of the hallmarks of Cape Kiwanda.
A couple weeks ago I had the great opportunity to travel to this remarkable beach and meet up with a number of other photographers journeying from the northern parts of Canada all the way to the southern parts of California. After a full day of exploring and getting acquainted with the group we said our farewells and I jumped in my car to drive home. Unexpectedly my car did not turn over and ceased to run even after jumper cables were used. The next day, Mother’s Day, my family joined me and my dad quickly fixed my car by adding a new wire to the battery. I can’t deny that I was secretly excited to be spending another beautiful day at my favorite beach and with some of my favorite people <3 It was the best last minute escape!
